The East and West Looe rivers follow their valleys to meet at Looe, a busy fishing port where boats come into the harbour daily. Fresh caught fish is sold at Pengelly’s fishmongers or ice packed to travel. Steep narrow streets lead up East Looe on one side of the river and West Looe on the other and an arched bridge joins the two. Looe is a town of bustling eager beach goers, sea birds, woodland river and cliff path walks, restaurants and pubs, an island, and a lifeboat centre. In the summer luggers and redwings sail the bay, and rafts and ducks race in the river. In the autumn the town hosts both a music and a literature festival. At night the quay is lit with a twinkle of gold, and along the streets roam lovers and ghosts.
