Beneath the mighty Carn Brae lies St Euny Church and from here the town of Redruth. A World Heritage Site, Redruth area was a centre for copper and tin mining. There is a sculpture of a Cornish Miner in the town centre created by David Annaud. A second sculpture, The Tinner’s Hounds is made from wellington boots from miners of Geevor Mine by David Kemp. A cultural centre, Redruth houses Kresen Kernow the Cornish archive and records office with huge vaults of books and papers, Krowji a vibrant centre for artists and makers, and The Ladder, creative writing centre and home to The Writer’s Block. The Buttermarket is the town’s food hall and the centre has many shops and eateries.
On the north coast near Redruth is Portreath’s pretty beach, and along the cliff path from here is Ralph’s cupboard where once the Giant Wrath lived.
The seaside village of Porthtowan is perfect for learning to surf, and it’s Eco Park is a ‘sustainable community space’ hosting talks, festivals, open mic nights, music, gardening and growing, gigs and theatre.
Nearby St Agnes is a mining and coastal village, home to the Bolster Giant Pageant.
