The lives and exploits of some people are stranger than fiction, and true tales of Cornish people have entered the folk cannon. John Tregeagle of Trevorder really was the steward at Lanhydrock House, Digory Piper was a failed pirate with a lute tune composed in his honour, and Coppinger and his gang terrorised the North Coast.
Some folk are demonised in stories, others are celebrated for their healing gifts and wonderful fashion sense.
Droll tellers told current news alongside tales as they travelled around, and wove local characters as well as places into their tales.
