Lizard Peninsular is the most southerly point of Cornwall, characterised by beautiful fishing harbour villages, sandy beaches, an array of wild flowers, rocks, and weather. From the large nature reserve at the centre rise the huge satellite discs of Goonhilly Earth Station reaching to space and the future; nearby lies deep peace at Croft Pasco Pool. Along the East coast is St Keverne, home to wrestlers and rebels and Cadgwith, a tiny fishing beach-side harbour with a folk night at the inn on a Tuesday. The Lizard Point at the tip of the windy headland is the most southerly point of Cornwall, where the Lizard Lighthouse stands overseeing a wild ocean.
Along the West Coast up from Lizard point is Kynance Cove, famous for serpentine rock formations, veined green like dragon’s scales; its sands are white, the sea turquoise and the choughs fly overhead. Mullion is a smugglers and pilchards village, Porthlevan has a foodie focus. Helston, busy town, holds an excellent museum and eclectic bookshop; its streets fill with dancers on Flora Day in May.
The area is steeped in magic, real and trick. There were ghost laying vicars at Mullion and Wendron, whilst the witches of Helston pretended to lay ghosts and reverse spells. Local families were pellars, they could undo bad magic, a power giver to their ancestor Lutey by a mermaid he rescued.
