Padstow

Padstow is a north coast fishing port at the mouth of the Camel river. It is best approached by bicycle, on a gentle ride along the Camel Trail which runs alongside the river from Bodmin to Wadebridge, and from Wadebridge to Padstow.

The harbour is full of fishing boats and the quayside a-hum with shops and restaurants. In May Padstow is famous for its popular and unique ‘Obby ‘Oss festival, in which two Obby Osses, one red, one blue, dance through the crowded town to the maypole.

The Doombar reaches across the mouth of the estuary, a bar of sand raised by a mermaid’s rage. The town was once home to the writer and folklorist Enys Tregarthen, collector of piskey tales.
